The McKie Trophy

McKie Trophy

Club Singles Championship

(Singles; 4 bowls; 21 shots)

Presented by President T.A. McKie in 1963. A few years after the Ladies Club was founded, the original ladies decided to hold a competition and Mr McKie, husband of founder member Mrs McKie, provided the trophy.

Sheila Harkins Bowl

Runner Up in Ladies Championship

Presented by Mrs Sheila Harkins in 1982. Fed up at always being the runner up, she decided to award a prize for it.

McLeod Quaich

(One day; singles; 3 bowls)

Presented by Lady President Mrs Anna McLeod (a founder member) in 1972, this singles competition was originally known as The President's Prize and in 1982 was played over a whole week. Few people were entering the competition and because many members thought the Ladies' President each year gave the trophy, it was decided to rename it The McLeod Quaich in 1984 and change the format. It is now held in August as a round robin competition in the morning, with section winners going on to a knock out competition in the afternoon.

Presented by Mrs Aimée Robertson to commemorate her presidential year in 1986 and first awarded in 1987.

Stark Salver (Handicap)

(Singles; 4 bowls; 15 ends)

Presented by Lady President Mrs Barbara Stark in 1981. In her own words, so that lower mortals may win something.



Forsyth Cup

(Nominated pairs; 4 bowls; 17 ends)

Presented by Past Lady President, Mrs Margaret Forsyth in 1997.

The Adam and Stewart Rosebowl

(Drawn pairs; 2 bowls; 17 ends)

Presented by Past Lady President Mrs Betty Adams and Lady President Mrs Cissy Stewart in 1969. This event started in 1969 as a Pairs, specified in 1972 as a 2 Bowl Pairs, changed by an AGM decision in 1978 to a 4 bowl Pairs. It continued as such until 1997 when, at a request from Betty Adams, it reverted to 2 Bowl Pairs.

The Agnes Clark Cup

(Drawn triples, 3 bowls; 15 ends)

Presented by Past Lady President Mrs Agnes Clark in 1986. Both Agnes and her husband were long time members. This competition runs on Wednesday afternoons during June.

Wyn Kinnear Cup

(Competition between Feuars v Non Feuars)

Presented by Past Lady President Wyn Kinnear in 1992. Both she and her husband Syd were members and feuars.

Elsie Reid Trophy

(Competition between The Earliest and The Latest)

Presented by Past Lady President Mrs Elsie Reid in 1993. This competition is between new members (Latest) and those who have been in the club the longest (Earliest).

Freda Morrison Memorial Trophy

Also known as the Centenary Shield

(One day knock-out competition; 3 bowls)

Presented by Mr. Ken Morrison in 1990 in memory of his wife Freda who died in 1988. Both were enthusiastic members of Braid Bowling Club. Ken's wish was that the shield should be award annually For Endeavour. It has had several formats in the past, initially open to first round losers in the Championship. In 2001, the committee decided to restrict the entrants by allowing only those with a + or 0 handicap. This encouraged the new and less experienced members to enter. In 2007, in order to get enough entries the cut off point in the handicaps was changed to -1.

Mann Trophy

(Drawn mixed triples; 2 bowls)

Presented by Mr Trevor and Mrs Sheila Mann in 1985, the year of their Presidencies. The competition takes place in June and is open to all members.

The Simpson Trophy

Braid Ladies v Braid Gentlemen

Presented by Past Lady President Mrs Greta Simpson and her husband, Jimmy, in 1990. This competition is played over two rinks ‑ one of Past Presidents and one Committee, chosen by the President and Ladies President respectively.
